Resumen

Alciphron constructs the particular image of the hetaera of in his letter 4.16, based on the iconographic character of the mythical monster Lamia. The epistolographer tries a variant of the progymnasmatic inversion (de)constructing an etopoeia in his letter. Thus, he achieves a paradoxical ethopoeia since the character does not follow her êthos, becoming, therefore, an aprepés or incongruousspeech. This paper analyzes Plutarch’s influence on this ethopoeic recreation of the mythical courtesan who, according to the tradition, controlled the passions of king Demetrius Poliorcetes
