Abstract

The main objective of this work is to analyze the opera Madama Butterfly, by Giacomo Puccini, from three aspects: its critical discourse with European and American imperialism in Asia, its contribution to the orientalist recreations that emerged from colonialism and the creative singularities of this work within of the Italian verista current. The libretto and the score will be the basic sources of study, together with the critical bibliographic apparatus.
