Abstract

The QUADMAP Project has come to fill in the methodological gap existing within the European Directive 2002/49/EC concerning the quiet areas and their standardizationas an object of analysis within the EU. The harmonization of the methods of identification, evaluation and management of such areas is a further step in preserving environmental noise quality of the citizens of our cities. In this context, this work is carried out by exploiting the possibilities of continuing to generate a deeper practical knowledge about the ability of Geographic Information Systems as a methodological tool. In order to do this, it is created and validated a tool which evaluates the accessibility of the quiet areas in cities in more approximated terms. Thereby, such indicator is incorporated as one more element of the Decision-Making System which helps in the identification and hierarchization of these areas within the urban agglomerations.
