Abstract

The present article tries to be an approximation to the concept of coeducation, exposing the main characteristics of this term. The purpose of the work is to study in depth the role of the coeducational school, observing the transition that has occurred since the mixed school. In the same way, the relevant role that the educational institution must possess is analyzed, being a space where it is educated on the existing sexist prejudices, working in a coordinated way with the family. In addition, the Spanish educational legislation on gender equality in education is exposed, showing that there are still inequalities to overcome. The article presents the benefits of the educational school to work peace, helping students to resolve conflicts without resorting to violence. Finally, it is indicated that it is necessary for teachers to be trained in coeducation, so that from the classroom they work out of respect, pursuing effective gender equality.
