Abstract

This article presents a biographical synthesis of José María Escudero y Franco (1855-1885). He was born in Leganés (Madrid), worked as a military doctor for several years in Jerez de la Frontera, and integrated into Jerez society as a membre of the Surgical Medical Academy, an active publicist in the medical fi eld, especially on public health issues, that were so pressing at the time. He also developed a prolifi c work in the magazine Asta Regia in which he published poems, narrations and chronicles.
