Résumé

Objective. Assessment to magnetic resonance imaging as diagnosis method in the malignant tumours of salivory glands. Patients and method. We presented 15 potients with salivary gland malignancies. All patients were studied by magnetic resonance image, with the 1,5 T system, performed imaging spin echo T1- weighted sequences on coronal and tranverse plans, and spin echo T2-weighted sequences on tranverse plans. The sean thickness was 4 mm. The histologic diagnosis was stablished. Results. The magnetic resonance image showed heterogeneus (60%) and homogeneous (40%) imaging and low signal intensity on T1 (100%) and low or intermediate (60%), or relatively high (40%) signal intensity on T2, conflrmed the presence of the glands masses, and permits the evaluation of the intra and extraglandular relationship of the tumor; and presence of lymphadenopathy (60%). 100% of cases were confirmed by histologic study, first with fine-needle aspiration and ofter surgery with pathologic examination of the lesion. Conclusions. In conclusion, magnetic resonance image is the best imaging diagnosis method in the study of salivary malignancies.
