Abstract

Actually, higher education in Europe is in a complex process of transformation. From methodological point of view, is necessary to develop a teaching activity focused in how learn, to establish the learning process in a defined framework of competences and to change teacher’s rol in that learning process. In this new context, is needed to introduce new tools to improve an Asses de students’ learning process. To adapt new points of view of education is essential to modifiy the way we make assessment according with new demands from learner focused framework. Portfolio as assessment resource, make possible a complete assessment process to improve the learning in our students. The present paper shows some reflections about the meaning of use a portfolio as a powerful tool to assess competences in higher education. In that sense, we present a complete revision and a deep analyze about different experiences in many universities – Spanish universities and international universities – in education area. For finish, we explain a proposal of experimentation and use of portfolio as a assessment and learning tool in the subject “Políticas y prácticas de innovación educativa para la sociedad del conocimiento” from a Master in the Malaga University in course 2010-2011.
