Resum

When referring to slavery, we normally think about the black slaves who were brought from Africa. But we forget that, throughout the Modern Age, slavery was also in effect as an institution in Europe. But there were slaves in Europe not only during the Ancient and the Middle Ages, but also in the Modern Age. The present study does not address slavery in Russia -where slavery existed even in the 19th century-, because Russia has been and still is a mid-Western, mid-Asian country. Since there were slaves in Europe, it is necessary to examine the slaves' condition in Europe at least during the Modern Age.
