Abstract
A description of the presence of a great number of Roman quarries work traces in the Cerro de los Covachos and Cerro Pedrera area, in Almadén de la Plata, Sevilla, Spain, was carried out. These important quarries provided this noble stone material to the main cities of the Roman Baetica. They were an important mining centre in a wide period of the Roman presence in Hispania. We can emphasize the great typological variety of extractive techniques employed in this site, which can be observed today. Likewise, it is important their interest as mining heritache and their potential as didactical and tourist resource, and as an in situ catalogue of marbel quarry and extraction processes in Roman times. It is worth while to be conserved for future generations.
