Resumen

INTRODUCCIÓN: ACE I/D polymorphism is apparently associated with higher adiposity, where the DD genotype showed higher body fat than the ID/II genotype. However, it remains unknown if is due to different regulation of appetite. OBJETIVOS: The main aim of this study was to investigate the differences between ACE genotype groups on appetite-related hormones and the subjective feeling of appetite in healthy young adults. METODOLOGÍA: This cross-sectional study is part of the “NutAF research Project”. A total of 74 young adults (28 women; 22.72 ± 4.40 Years old; BMI of 25.81 ± 5.61) Were enrolled in the study. Fasting blood samples were taken to determine plasma appetite-related hormones like ghrelin, glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), peptide tyrosine-tyrosine (PYY), Leptin and Insulin. Genomic Typing of the ACE Gene I/D Polymorphism was determined by Real-Time PCR System. The validated Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) was used to record hunger, satiety, fullness, prospective food consumption (PFC), desire to eat something (DTS) fatty, salty, sweet or savoury, and palatability of meals. VAS was passed before and after a maximal exercise test. The differences between ACE gene I/D polymorphism variants (DD, ID and II) was determined by ANOVA. RESULTADOS: Differences were found in leptin (p = 0.001) And in DTS something sweet pre-exercise (p = 0.050). Moreover, in the 2-way ANOVA (genotype and sex), significant differences between variants were found in ghrelin, leptin, hunger pre-exercise, DTS sweet pre-exercise, PFC post-exercise, pre-post exercise difference in hunger, pre-post exercise difference in PFC and pre-post exercise difference in the average of appetite (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIÓN: The ACE Gene I/D Polymorphism seems to be related to the sensation of appetite, hunger and the desire to eat measured on the VAS scale, as well as with two of the main hormones involved in energy homeostasis, ghrelin and leptin.
