Résumé

There is evidence that vitamin D acts as an immunomodulator or regulates the production of anti-inflammatory cytokines. Vitamin D deficiency has a major negative impact on chronic pain patients through its action on tissues such as the central nervous system, endocrine system, immune system, anti-inflammatory cytokine production, protection against autoimmune or inflammatory diseases, among others. There is even evidence to suggest that low levels of vitamin D are associated with a higher risk of mortality. All this, and in particular the beneficial effects it has demonstrated at the level of the central nervous system (CNS), together with its anti-inflammatory potential, raises its potential role in the treatment of pain.
