Resumen

INTRODUCCIÓN: The importance of monitoring the physiological changes in skeletal muscle during strength training has increased in recent years. Parameters such as tissue oxygenation index (TOI) has gained popularity due to its relationship with fatigue and muscle hypertrophy and can be measured using the nearinfrared spectroscopy (NIRS) method. However, the reliability of this method during the evaluation of dynamic strength has not been fully elucidated yet. OBJETIVOS: The aim of this study was to establish the reliability of NIRS in determining TOI at rest andduring a dynamic strength test repeated twice 48h apart. METODOLOGÍA: This study was conducted with 25 healthy young voluntary male participants (mean ± standard deviation, 21.8±2.6 Years). The 1m·s-1 load test, consisting of 8-repetitions with a load that can be moved at 1m·s-1, was repeated twice by each subject with 48 hours between sessions as a washout. During the rest and exercise test, the NIRS system (NIRO 200nx, Hamamatsu Photonics KK, Hamamatsu, Japan) measured the changes in Vastus Lateralis and Vastus medialis TOI. To evaluate the reliability, Coefficient of Variation (CV), Standard Error Measurement (SEM) and Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) were obtained. RESULTADOS: The main results obtained were at rest (CV=2.76%, SEM=1.042, ICC=0.757 for Vastus Medialis and CV=3.02%, SEM=1.118, ICC=0.763 for Vastus Lateralis), the test (CV=10.23%, SEM=1.299, ICC=0.908 for Vastus Medialis and CV=7.52%, SEM=0.528, ICC=0.970 for Vastus Lateralis). CONCLUSIÓN: This study shows that NIRO 200nx is a reliable instrument to assess TOI during rest and dynamic strength exercise in healthy young males, providing support for monitoring physiological changes in skeletal muscle during strength training.
