Abstract

In recent decades there has been a notable increase in the prevalence and incidence of overweight and obesity both globally and in our country, within which our community is among the regions with the most unfavorable data. Obesity raises the risk of chronic complications that affect the health and quality of life of the person, has been associated with a significant increase in direct and indirect costs (compared with people with normal weight) and therefore and for all that, if current trends are not modified, could compromise the sustainability of public social health systems. In addition, in this context, in recent years there has been an expansion of bariatric surgery as a technique of choice in the treatment of patients with severe obesity.
