Abstract

This paper explores the Regimina sanitatis as medical literary genre from the Late Middle Ages to the Renaissance and as an instrument for knowledge diffusion in health matters, up to the figure of Luis Lobera de Ávila (1480-1551) and his text Libro de las cuatro enfermedades cortesanas (Toledo, 1544). We will try to establish whether this text is wholly or partly a regimen sanitatis, especially in relation to the disease known as bubas or syphilis, which appeared at the end of the 15th century and was a matter of interest for this court physician.
