Résumé

The karyotype, C-banding and Ag- NORs (nucleolus organiser regions) of the anguilloid species Ophysurus serpens, are reportad for the first time, showing 2n = 38, NF = 74. The C-banding pattern revealed large blocks of paracentromeric constitutiva heterochromatin only in the large biarmed pairs. This suggested that centric fusions involving monoarmed ancestral chromosomes may have taken place and given rise to the basic complement for anguilliformes of 2n = 38. Only two Ag- NORs were observad in the telomeric position on the short arms of pair 8 andcoincident with a C negative region.
