Resumen

Traditionally, supply chain control systems have been said to harm relationships between organizations. However, recent research challenges this perspective and suggests that control systems do not necessarily undermine trust. Whether they do so depends on at least six factors: the nature and stage of the inter-firm relationship, the general types of control used by managers, the specific control tools used, their purpose, who participates in designing control systems, and how these systems are designed and implemented. By analyzing these factors, we suggest that managers can successfully balance control and trust.
