Abstract

The aging of the population is presented as a global challenge, which requires local responses such as the transformation of cities, neighborhoods and communities into friendly areas for people who age. The objective is to show the systematization of the collective mapping carried out in the Marechal Carmona neighborhood of Cascais (Portugal). The social cartography created shows their feelings of belonging to the neighborhood, the barriers they have to live with and their proposals for improvement from the proximity. In conclusion, collective mapping is a versatile and inclusive diagnostic tool, very useful for social work, which creates a timely alternative discourse, from within, essential in the process of transformation towards a neighborhood friendly to the elderly.
