Abstract

We present the design of an activity that aims to foster students'empathy towards endangered species, as well as to stimulate their socio-emotional competences. The design is based on the pedagogical tradition that uses games as an educational tool. The activity is made up of three phases: choise, research and competition. In the first phase, each pupil chooses an endangered species, in the second phase he or she independently investigates the behavioural patterns characteristic of that species, and in the third phase participates in a competition in which behavioural patterns and species have to be associated. The activity, which can also incorporate other complementary actions that reinforce the planned objectives, is expected to awaken students'interest in endangered species, foster their attraction for biodiversity and reinforce their appreciation for socio-emotional skills.
