Abstract

This study is a first approach to the toponymy of the Andalusi period in the present-day municipalities of Morón de la Frontera, Arahal, Montellano, Puerto Serrano and Coripe. I analyse the names of twelve places, mountains and rivers documented in Arabic texts in the territory of Mauror (Moron) and in some neighbouring areas, as well as other place names of Latin or Arabic origin that were adapted to the Spanish language from the 13th century onwards. As far as circumstances allow, I comment on the situation, the most probable etymology and original meaning, and other relevant data of these seventy place names.
