Abstract

Chronic appendicitis is a clinical practice disease forgotten in modern pediatric surgery textbooks. Dueto the subtle and nonespecific clinical signs, the lack of and histologyc support and poorly significative surgical findings, is poor considered in scientific medical forums. We present 43 patients including 5 with appendicular abscess treated medically which were aperated 3 to 6 months after the agude episodi, 6 which presentedwith an appendicolito and 32 which were operated because of chronic abdominal pain. We concluded that we must considered the followintg aspect to select the patients: Chronic pain well localized in righ lower abdominal cuadrant with normal laboratory and echografy studies whistout finding any other cause for the pain. The radiological signs suggestive of appendix disease must be also considered.
