Resumen

University language teachers have to consider reality or the global issues that concern humanity. They owe it to their students to provide them with the necessary tools to reflect on and debate current topics, such as ecology and the environment. According to a Greenpeace report, Spain is one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change. (Greenpeace Spain, 2020). The question we ask ourselves is how we can promote environmental awareness in foreign language classes. The objective of this article is, firstly, to reflect from an ecolinguistic perspective on the interactions between language (or communication) and ecology and, secondly, to contribute to raising awareness and sensitizing our students to the environment through language didactics.
