Doctor by the Universidad de Cádiz with the thesis Aplicación de técnicas quimiométricas a la resolución de señales electroquímicas solapadas 2003. Supervised by Dr. José Luis Hidalgo Hidalgo De Cisneros, Dr. I. Naranjo Rodríguez.

Full Professor since February 2025. Currently he is Vice-Dean of Infrastructures of the Faculty of Sciences and IP of the FQM-249 research group at the University of Cadiz. He has been Secretary of the Department of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Cadiz from 2012 to 2023. 17 years of experience as a teacher (in Spanish and English, 3 five-year periods) and some more as a researcher at the university. From 2017 to 2025 was Associate Professor; in the period 2010-2017 he was Tenured Professor and from 2007 to 2010 he was Assistant Professor. He holds a PhD in Chemical Sciences (Cum Laude). His thesis has the European Doctor Mention and the Extraordinary Doctorate Award. The qualification that allowed him to obtain the degree of Doctor was that of Bachelor of Chemical Sciences. For the last three years of his degree he was collaborator student and, in the last, a collaboration scholarship holder at the Department of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Cadiz. From 2000 to 2003, he enjoyed a ministerial pre-doctoral fellowship (FPU) that allowed him to carry out two stays (2000 and 2002, of 3 and 5 months duration, respectively, at the Universitá degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia (Modena – Italy), under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Renato Seeber. To date, he has published 79 peer-reviewed articles (Scopus ID 6508286427, h-index 24; h-index 26 on Google Scholar) in scientific journals indexed in JCR. 53 of these articles were published since 2018. Of the 79 articles, 50 belong to the 1st quartile (Q1), with 36 published since 2018: 61 articles fall within the 1st tertile (T1, 43 since 2018) and 1st tertile (T2, 11 since 2018). 16 are within the 1st decile (D1, 10 since 2018), with a high degree of multidisciplinarity. Most of them are based on the development of new materials for Sonogel-Carbon electrodes as a transducer, modifying it with conductive polymers and nanomaterials; the electrochemical devices built with them were applied to the determination of biomedical, agro-food or environmental analytes. With them, the candidate obtained 3 research sections (“sexenios”) and already has the 4th in preparation. He also has 4 published books: Doctoral thesis, Bachelor's thesis and two monographs. 6 published book chapters: two of them with Elsevier (2019 and 2021), two with Springer (2020 and 2022) and another with RSC (2021). I also have 50 non-indexed publications and 2 OIV-OENO scientific reports related to the treatment of musts with calcium sulphate for fortified wines. More than 120 scientific communications to congresses in different formats (>90 in international meetings), as well as more than 20 oral talks in international ones. More than 25 have been published in proceedings with ISBN. Research projects/contracts: since 2012 to date I have been involved in 4 national and regional R&D projects, 9 local projects (Principal Investigator in 5 of them) and 3 international cooperation projects, being Principal Investigator in the project: 'AP/038929/11', in collaboration with Prof. Aziz Amine from the Hassan II University of Casablanca (Mohamed-Morocco), funded by AECID-Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since September 2022 I am Principal Investigator of the national project PID2021-122578NB-I00 funded by the Spanish Research Agency and the Ministry of Science and Innovation of Spain. In the last 10 years I have participated in 4 R&D contracts with companies. Inventor of several patents: 1 international and 7 national (5 of them with prior examination), a European patent filed and an Intellectual Property Registration ‘Block Building Biosensors’. I have 3 Doctoral Theses under direction (one in co-tutelle) and two defended in January 2018 and April 2021. About 20 Master's Final Projects and more than 10 Final Degree Projects supervised.
