My academic research centres on topics relating to coastal dune evolution, beach-dune interactions and aeolian sediment transport. I am interested in both pure and applied research. I have explored monitoring and modelling challenges using on-site remote sensing systems, state-of-the-art equipment for experimental work, and CFD. I am now particularly interested in the management of human activities and the role of coastal dunes as buffers against sea-level rise and storminess. I have strongly benefitted from working in a diversity of countries and educational settings, including Edge Hill University (England; Full Professor, Reader & Lecturer, from 2012-2022), Ulster University (N Ireland; NERC Postdoctoral, 2010-2012), and University of Guelph (Canada; 2005-2010), where I completed my PhD. I have MSc and BSc degrees from the Universidade de Vigo (Spain) and visits to the University of Las Palmas GC (Canary Islands, Spain) and Sydney University (Australia). I currently work as a researcher in coastal dune dynamics at the University of Cadiz, and I continue contributing to a range of academic and scholarly activities.
