Abstract

Works on Mnmotechnics proliferated in the Renaisance; among them, those by Pedro de Ravena, J. Romberch, C. Rosellius, Publicius, J. de Aguilera or G. Leporeo, are worth mentioning; do not forget the appearance of appendages and multiple references dedicated to the mnemonics in different grammatical works of the Renaissance (George of Trebizond, the Brocense, among others). This collection of treaties is the result of the revision of the classic mnemonic theories borne in works like De Memoria et Reminiscentia of Aristotle, Rhetorica ad Herennium, De invetione of Cicero or the Institutio Oratoria of Quintilianus. All this theoretical material was handled in turn by the great theologians of the Middle Ages, including Thomas Aquinas and Albertus Magnus, so that scholars of the Renaissance comes to them a science that has come a long way in the rhetorical tradition. The purpose of these works was to explain a way to translate texts into mnemotechnic images which were then arranged and ordered in mental images (memoria per locos et imagines) and located in mental places. So, develop mechanisms for creation and distribution of images following the rules strictly rhetorical. In turn, is a constant in almost all these studies the anatomical interest by working memory in complex, unknown organ like the brain.
