Resum
This study is a historical approach to King Alfonso X (The Wise) of Castile's "Cancionero de Santa María de El Puerto", based on a review of the "Libros de Repartimiento" ("Books of Partitions") as well as documents related to the repopulation of the Guadalete river and Bay of Cádiz area. Comprising 24 "cantigas" (songs) inscribed to the Virgin of Santa María do Porto (formerly Alcanate, today Puerto de Santa María), this songbook's historical value is established in this essay, wich proposes a composition date for the cycle of songs (nos. 372 and 393) about the rabies by comparing it to the songbook of St. Mary of Terena (Portugal), the only other case of St. Mary's "cantigas" where this disease is mentioned.
