Abstract

This paper wants to give an account of the process of institutionalization of Communication for Development and Social change (CDCS) in Spain in the first decade of the 21st century, after a long period of oblivion and marginalization. The initial hypothesis is that during the current expansion of the CDCS in the Spanish context, this boom can be analyzed as an implosion of this field, that is, as a break inwards, due to the inconsistency and the weakness with which it was built in the institutionalization phase. Methodologically, the work has been done from the perspective of the document review (Erlandson, 1993) MacDonald and Tipton, 1993; Mills, 1959) of the academic literature and reports produced in the Spanish context for the past 30 years. The article also establishes relations between the construction of the field of the CDCS in Spain and the processes carried out worldwide, with the aim of establishing relevant discontinuities and continuities
