Abstract

The Spanish nineteenth century is characterized by being a period of political and economic upheavals. This situation makes these two areas an obligatory reference in the works of foreign writers. For this reason, the present article identifies the cultural specific items(CSI) on these two fields that appear in the work of Richard Ford Gatherings from Spain, published in 1846. This analysis establishes the political and economic cultural heritage of a country is a strong source of CSIs and shows the relationship and influence between the type of vocabulary used and the strategies of translation and interpretation applied by the author to overcome those translation difficulties.
