Abstract

Objective: to determine the educational aspects of type-2 diabetes mellitus during childhood and youth. Methods: revision of scientific literature, both in English and Spanish, published over the past 10 years which has been indexed in several health-related databases (MEDLINE, ScienceDirect, SciELO y CUIDEN). Results: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is an emerging disease in children. Nursing interventions consist of health education in the acquisition of healthy lifestyle habits. The family supposes a fundamental axis in the strategy of care. Conclusions: Nursing interventions should be directed towards health education and, in the event of diagnosis of the disease, therapeutic interviews should be carried out, encouraging motivation and self-confidence, with the support of the family.
