Abstract

Since the entry into force of the resolution 1206 of May 26, 2006 of the International Maritime Organization, hereinafter IMO, and in line with other international laws and regulations in force establishes the obligation to revise lifesaving appliances annually by authorized entities. In the same way, each period of five years a review must be done more comprehensive and thorough of such equipment. Additionally, international organizations have been working very actively to propose and establish mandatory improvements for above equipment in order to improve security. An example can be cited that recently has entered into force a regulation requiring vessels to update the mechanisms of release of the boat with respect to the support structure, i.e. the hook. Although there is already rules for these inspections this article is proposing the elaboration of a procedure, could be standardized, which take the set of standards in force and serve as a guide for the performing of such annual and five yearly reviews. This procedure must also collect other types of non-exhaustive regulated operations though of undoubted importance such as repairs to the elements of the lifesaving equipment: davits, winches, lifeboats and hooks.
