Abstract

The learning of the lexicon though reading: synonymy and antonymy relations in the text. The reading activity performs a crucial function in the processes of acquisition of the lexicon of a language, especially during the school period. The contextualization of the lexicon within a thematic field familiar to the reader makes it possible not only to identify the meaning of words previously unknown but also to establish relationships among them regarding their situation in the text. In this sense, the explanation of lexical relations such as synonymy and antonymy, which affect a wide range of the lexicon of our languages, is thought to have reading, an activity in which those relations become overt, as a fulcrum.
