Abstract

Testicular cancer represents 1% of malignancies in males and 5% of all urological tumors. It is more frequent between ages 15 to 35 years. Only 1-2% of the cases occur bilaterally at the time of the diagnosis.1 Left to its natural evolution, it leads to the death of 85% of those affected within the course of 2 to 5 years. However, thanks to the improvement of the diagnostic methods and to a more effective treatment, it is one of the malignant tumors with less mortality. We propose guidelines with the aim of accelerating and facilitating the role of the primary care physician in the diagnosis of a scrotal mass. We describe epidemiological, clinical and analytical keys that serve these professionals to anticipate the most likely diagnosis and to identify the necessary diagnostic tests to request from their consultations.
