Doctor by the Universidad de Cádiz with the thesis Analisis del genero narrativo en las preceptivas literarias españolas del siglo XIX 1999. Supervised by Dr. María del Carmen García Tejera.

Mª Isabel Morales Sánchez is a Lecturer of Literary Theory and Comparative Literature at the University of Cádiz, where she received her PhD in Hispanic Philology in 1999. Her research focuses on the theory and practice of literary reading and writing, with a special emphasis on the rhetoric established in the digital contexts, reading habits and electronic literature. Besides, she is also interested in narrative theory, landscape and literature, and women’s writing. She has devoted her research to highlight the value of literature and to contribute to its theoretical and practical study by attending to all the agents involved in the literary event, as well as to delve into the digital skills as essential elements of today’s literary discourse. She is the director of the research group LECRIRED (HUM-530: “Literary Aspects of Literary Theory. Networked reading and writing) since 2013, of which her three current supervised PhD students are members, as well as other experts, and the Secretary of the Institute for Research in Hispanic World Studies (IN-EMHis). Among her collaborations with national and international research groups and networks, she has participated as a speaker at Spanish, European, Russian and Latin American universities . As a result of this collaboration, she is part of the research team in the project “Professionalisation of public librarians in reading promotion based on reading as an social inclusion element” (319158 CONACYT 2021-2024). Likewise, she has also directed teaching and innovation projects related to digital literacy and communication such as “Lecrired Docentia” or YouTube as a tool for developing critical skills”, in which she has tried to develop tools and strategies to foster digital reading among university students. She belongs to the editorial committee of Riparia, Poliédrica. Paisaje y cultura and Letra Pequeña (UCA) and is the scientific reviewer of Actio Nova, Castilla, Pragmalingüística, Trocadero, Archivum, Rhythmica, Esferas and Álabe. She has also coordinated a journal dossier “La lectura en y por la educación superior”at Caracteres. Estudios culturales y críticos de la esfera digital (Año 2019, Vol. 8, Número 2) on, an a monograh inÁlabe Núm. 21 (2020): enero – junio. International Congress on “La lectura en contextos universitarios. Un examen pendiente”, held at Universidad de Cádiz from 21st to 23rd November 2018, and a working dossier on cultural skills of University students at Cultural Observatory of Atalaya Project (2011). From 2012 to 2016, she organized four RIUL Summer Courses at Universidad de Cádiz in which she focused on different aspects of literary reading and writings and that were especially oriented towards a broader audience not directly related to University.
