Abstract
We provide a summary of the current state of knowledge of the General Research Project developed by a Spanish-German team in Cueva de Ardales and in Sima de las Palomas de Teba, authorised by the Junta de Andalucía. We present a synthesis of the excavated areas in Ardales Cave, with a brief description of the chronologies and some data on the technology and cultural framework. We also give an overview of the excavation at Sima de las Palomas de Teba. We consider Cueva de Ardales as a place of special activities, linked to frequentation and the creation of graphic expressions. Of particular note are the dating of crusts using the uranium-thorium technique with chronologies of more than 60 Ka, on panels with paintings. Sima de las Palomas de Teba and Cucarra, a settlement located at the entrance to Cueva de Ardales, correspond to real camps. At these sites there is evidence of occupation by societies with Middle Palaeolithic and Upper Palaeolithic technology.
