Doctor by the Universidad de Cádiz with the thesis Structural and functional characterization of nanoporous thin films through advanced scanning-transmission electron microscopies and optical spectroscopies 2021. Supervised by Dr. Francisco Miguel Morales Sanchez, Dr. Bertrand Lacroix.

Antonio J. Santos Izquierdo-Bueno obtained his PhD degree in Nanoscience and Materials Technologies (NTM) from the University of Cádiz (UCA) in 2021 (with the highest score and the International Mention), being the beneficiary of a competitive pre-doctoral fellowship (FPU contract) during the period 2017-2021. In this context, Antonio J. Santos carried out his Thesis within the Research Group "Materials Science and Engineering" (TEP-120), focusing his research on the development of design rules for the engineering of porous and multifunctional nanostructured systems by means of the implementation of (S)TEM techniques and optical spectroscopies (https://dialnet.unirioja.es/servlet/tesis?codigo=294117). Afterwards, he was awarded a Margarita Salas postdoctoral fellowship of the Spanish Ministry (competitive call, scoring 95.7/100) to work at the FEMTO-ST Institute of Besançon (France). Dr. Santos is co-author of 22 scientific papers indexed in JCR journals (17/22 Q1), 30 communications in International Congresses (22 talks, 3 invited) and he is the first signatory of a patent registered in June 2021. Likewise, he has participated in 4 National R&D projects, 6 UCA projects (being the principal investigator in 2 of them), 3 grants financed by the UCA and 8 technology transfer contracts. In addition, Antonio J. Santos has maintained international collaborations with researchers from the Pprime Institute in Poitiers (France), the FEMTO-ST Institute in Besançon (France), the University of Cardiff (Wales), and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in Chennai (India). Furthermore, Dr. Santos has carried out several pre-doctoral stays at the Pprime Institute (3 months), which were financed through the Mobility Program for FPU scholarship beneficiaries (in regime of competitive concurrence as well). Other merits are: University teaching (19 credits) in the Area of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering; supervisor of 1 Bachelor Degree Thesis and 1 Master Thesis; reviewer (once) for the journal "Thin solid films"; ANECA accreditation to Associate Professor (“Contratado Doctor”), obtained in March 2022; winner of the Cátedra Fundación Cepsa 2021 award, in the category of Patents of invention and utility model; winner of the extraordinary doctoral award 2020/21 within the framework of the PhD Program in Nanoscience and Materials Technology of the UCA; member of (a) the Council of the Materials Science Department of the UCA and its Permanent Commission, (b) the Quality Commission of the Doctorate Program in NTM (until December 2021), and (c) the IMEYMAT Institute of Research on Electron Microscopy and Materials. Further merits are the assistance to specialization courses, workshops and meetings, and the active participation in 6 scientific dissemination events. His current research interests include the development of new strategies for the synthesis and improvement of energy-efficient thermochromic coatings for application in passive smart glazing.
